Viva La Cake Uses ComposiMold for a Very Important Part of Her Carousel Cake

Our friend Joly Diaz of Viva La Cake (www.vivalasugarcake.blogspot.com) had a problem! The pre-made mold she bought for her carousel cake was not going to work!

"I got a mold specifically for this cake, but the horses faced the opposite direction to the turn table movement. I had to use a toy horse and use your product to get it done right. It was awesome and sooo helpful."

We were so happy to hear that having ComposiMold in her cake decorating tool box, empowered her to make her cake as she envisioned it...horses galloping forward, not backwards.

Then she did a little experimenting with making her own master object to mold:

"Then I made a horse in fondant, let it dry, poured your product over it and it also worked!"

With this technique, you can truly make one-of-a-kind cakes!

Thank you Viva La Cake for sharing your awesome project. We were very impressed with this work of art.

Chocolate Peas and Corn. For the next time someone asks you to eat your vegetables.

Fred asked about molding frozen peas to make Chocolate Peas and Chocolate Corn. He wanted to "mold pureed peas (and other foods) so that they look something like a "pile" (portion) of peas (or other). There are molds out there, but they look like a couple half rounded & melted peas when they are done (frozen food put in place)." You can see some great pro cooking tips on Fred's blog: chewonthis412.wordpress.com .

What a cool project! I have seen corn on the cob molded, broccoli, sliced tomatoes, and carrots, but I love the idea of a bowl of vegetables that's actually chocolate. It makes such a dichotomy to my senses between tasty chocolate and healthy vegetables :)

So it started when Fred asked us what he was doing wrong after his first attempt didn't work so well. The peas had melted and the ComposiMold was a bit guey and it wasn't a fun mold. I believe the reason for the not-so-healthy looking mold was there was too much ice with the peas so that when the water melted it damaged the ComposiMold. This was a great example of using ComposiMold for experimenting, making something very unique, and creating a challenging and fun chocolate mold.

My turn to see. I reached into the freezer and the first vegetable I pulled out was corn, so I used corn for my chocolate vegetable. I poured some frozen corn into a small bowl about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Enough to cover the bottom but not so much that the ComposiMold will run in and around all the corn pieces.

We debated whether the vegetables should be glued together or placed in jello or fondant so it would stay in place, but it was decided that we'd lose details that way. And since it's ComposiMold, I figured we could experiment. If just pouring it into a cup didn't work, we could try it again. So the frozen vegetables are in the cup, and they are not glued in position.  I could have also coated the corn with vegetable oil as a release agent, but it wasn't necessary.

We melted the ComposiMold, but after it was melted we didn't pour right away. We let it cool so it was thicker before pouring. This way the vegetables wouldn't float, and the ComposiMold would cool faster before any water reacted with it. After we poured the ComposiMold over the corn, we placed it back in the freezer to finish cooling and to keep the corn and ice from melting.

Then I forgot about the mold. Whoops. Several days later Fred asks me..."so? What do you think?" Sorry! I hurried down to see.

The mold was great. I pulled out the corn. The mold was ready.

I took a piece of tape and wrapped it around the mold to make a little mold box.

I melted chocolate...first  green chocolate to make it look like Peas. And then yellow chocolate for corn.

Cooled it in the freezer.
Chocolate Poured into ComposiMold Mold.

Pulled out the mold, carefully pulled the mold away from the chocolate. And voila, a chocolate vegetable.
Green Chocolate Corn or if you squint, Chocolate Peas.

Thank you Fred for this suggestion! What do you want to see?

Go eat your vegetables.

We need your support! Kickstarter for Food Safe Molds

ComposiMold, the makers of re-usable mold making materials, is announcing today that it is raising funds to complete the development of the first food safe, re-usable mold making putty. This eco-friendly molding putty is designed to make the process of making your own chocolate molds easier than anything else available. With it you can duplicate any object into edible treats.

ComposiMold is beginning the campaign to raise $4,000 in funds through an online funding platform, Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/composimold). Kickstarter is a way for people to pre-order the invention prior to it being commercially available. This enables ComposiMold to complete the testing and produce the first batch of their latest DIY material that is going to change the cake decorating and chocolate making world.

The ImPRESSive Putty has been called the “3D printer for the rest of us” because it is so simple to use. Just heat, press, duplicate, and then whenever you want to just re-melt to re-use. What you make is really up to the user.  And now you can make shapes into edible treats like chocolate, fondant, gelatin, gummies, gumpaste, butter, and more. Examples include:
·         Duplicating toys like a lion’s head into chocolate (more interesting than a bunny!).
·         Making a fondant cake wrap from lace
·         Taking a 3D printed object and making it into butter.
·         Making jewelry into gelatin or Jell-O.

About 2 years ago, Shawn Lemelin and Stan Farrell were trying to develop eco-friendly polymers for use in ComposiMold, there heat and pour re-usable mold making material. At the same time, they were attempting to create a re-usable material with a higher melting temperature than ComposiMold. It was through this experimentation that the first ImPRESSive Putty was developed. This initial material was not food safe, but immediately after commercializing it people wanted it for their cake and cookie decorations.

“Almost immediately we knew we were going to need to invent a food safe version of ImPRESSive Putty.” Stan, the President of the Maine manufacturing company, says. “We were being asked by cake decorators every day. It took us another two years, but we think we have it, a food safe, re-usable molding putty.”

So what can you make with Food Safe ImPRESSive Putty? From chocolates to fondants to Marzipan, to Jell-O. Lego pieces are popular as candy. Jewelry is also used to make edible treats. Many people in the creative maker community like to make 3D printed parts into chocolates. You can decide. You can make your own molds anytime you want. Small molds can be made in less than 10 minutes. Larger molds in less than an hour.

To make this reality, ComposiMold needs to complete the testing for food safe materials, obtain correct packaging and labeling, and produce the first round of materials. The Kickstarter campaign is designed to support this preliminary work.

Easy Make It Chocolate Duplicate Your Art in Chocolate

https://youtu.be/k5Mt9UusrY8

This is Easy Make It Chocolate, and with it you can duplicate almost anything
into chocolate .

The process is, as the name says, Easy. Melt the Easy Make
It Chocolate in a microwave or double boiler, much like you melt your
chocolate.

When warmed, it turns into a thin liquid that you pour it
over your object that you want to duplicate,
Then let cool or place it in the freezer for 15 minutes.

When it’s cool, Easy Make It is a stretchable, flexible
rubber that flexes around chocolate to make removal from the mold easy

And what sets Easy Make It apart is that it is Reusable. You
can remelt it again and again so that you can pour over your next design.

Because you can use it as many times as you want, it makes a
great tool, so it is there whenever you need it. Just pull out the Easy Make It
Chocolate, and make a mold that is unique and 100% your own.

Most of you have used the plastic or silicone molds. We’ve
all seen the molds, probably many of you have the same ones because they make
thousands of them that are all the same…and like many of us, you use it once,
and then it goes onto your shelf never to be used again.

So for the price of one silicone mold, you can have many dozens
of unique shapes, each one as unique as you.

Easy Make it is eco-friendly and does not contain  any petroleum based polymers. And because it
is reusable, you are not putting more non-biodegradable rubber into the world.

And of course, Easy Make it is also 100% food contact safe. Be
sure your original part is clean, pour EMC over it, and you’re ready. To clean,
use a cold wet wash cloth and let it completely dry. Remelt it to make your next
creation.

And because you know it can be melted in a microwave or
double boiler, you know you can use it almost any time for weddings, school
treats, birthdays, or just because.

What you do is only limited by your imagination.

Experiment with shapes you never thought possible

And for those who want to take their art to the next level, When
you are ready to create something of your own, when you want to make the
creations that are in your mind, the tool to use is Easy Make It Chocolate.

Hi I’m Stan Farrell, the developer of Easy Make It Chocolate
and President of ComposiMold. Along with the rest of the team here at
ComposiMold,  Michelle, Shawn, Bobbi, and
Dan, we are here to  help make your ideas
real. What can we do to help?

Breaking Bad's Candy Lady Uses ComposiMold!

ComposiMold's Six Degrees of Separation

Who doesn't love to find out that their customers are famous?! Recently we learned that our customer, Debbie Ball, The Candy Lady, of Old Town, New Mexico made an edible treat that was used in the Award Winning Series, Breaking Bad.

We recently met her at a trade show in Albuquerque, NM and were so excited to hear that she's experimenting with ComposiMold-FC (food contact). When we recently spoke with her on the phone she explained that she was making a mold of an air conditioner remote control. She's a very creative business woman with lots of ideas and we look forward to seeing pictures of all her future ComposiMold projects!
